“It says one big thing”: Patrick Mouratoglou explains one thing he notices in Carlos Alcaraz’s serve recently
Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently analyzed Carlos Alcaraz’s serve, pointing out key differences in the Spaniard’s technique. At 21, Alcaraz is considered one of the top players in men’s tennis, alongside Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
Mouratoglou, who currently coaches former world number one Naomi Osaka, shared his insights in an Instagram post, highlighting the unique aspects of Alcaraz’s serving motion.
“I see two things in this photo of Carlos Alcaraz,” he said. “First, his right leg is extending so far up. Second, his left arm is stretching far back after the serve. What does this tell us? It reveals one key factor—how loose and relaxed he is. There’s no muscular tension stopping his leg from going that high or his left arm from reaching so far back.”
Despite his strong technical form, Alcaraz has faced a challenging start to the 2025 season. He reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open but was eliminated by Serbian legend Novak Djokovic in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4).
His struggles continued at the Qatar Open, where he once again fell in the quarterfinals, this time losing to Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
However, the four-time Grand Slam champion has had a bright spot this season, winning an ATP title in Rotterdam. In his strongest performance of the year, he defeated Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the final (6-4, 3-6, 6-2).
As the season unfolds, Alcaraz will be aiming to regain top form and build on his recent success.
