Anna Kalinskaya and Coach Patricia Tarabini’s Strong Bond Highlighted in WTA Video
A recent WTA video has shone a light on the close partnership between Anna Kalinskaya and her longtime coach, Patricia Tarabini. The Argentine former player has been mentoring Kalinskaya since 2019, helping her climb from outside the top 150 to a career-high World No. 11 in 2024.
Kalinskaya’s Rapid Rise Under Tarabini
With Tarabini’s guidance, Kalinskaya has made steady progress on the WTA Tour, breaking into the top 100 in 2022 and making her top 15 debut in 2024. Some of her biggest achievements include:
- Quarter-finals at the 2024 Australian Open
- Finalist at the WTA 1000 Dubai Championships
- Finalist at the WTA 500 Berlin Ladies Open
Reflecting on Kalinskaya’s development, Tarabini shared an emotional moment from their journey:
“I think she maybe grew up with a lot of expectations from people, from those around her. In five and a half years with Anna, one of the most important things I’ve heard from her was just two weeks ago. She said, ‘I love tennis.’ So I’m done. We can quit, and I’m done. I did my job, I think, now that she can tell me she loves tennis.”
Kalinskaya, currently World No. 34, credited Tarabini for shaping her game:
“She’s a great coach, and every day I see it—how much she can still give me. Every day is a learning process with her on court.”
Female Coaches Gaining Recognition on Tour
While female coaches remain a minority in the sport, several WTA players are working with women coaches, including:
- Mirra Andreeva (No. 9) – Conchita Martínez
- Marta Kostyuk (No. 19) – Sandra Zaniewska
- Donna Vekic (No. 20) – Pam Shriver
- Katie Boulter (No. 26) – Biljana Veselinovic
- Magda Linette (No. 37) – Agnieszka Radwańska
Kalinskaya’s Recent Struggles & Indian Wells Challenge
Despite her impressive 2024 season, Kalinskaya is currently on a three-match losing streak after a runner-up finish at the Singapore Tennis Open in early February. She suffered early exits at the Doha Open and Dubai Open, where she was defending runner-up points from 2024.
As World No. 33, Kalinskaya has just missed out on a seeded spot at Indian Wells next week. However, with her strong baseline game and aggressive shot-making, she will be eager to bounce back and regain her top 30 status.
