Luke Littler Eyes Gold After Premier League Night Five Victory
Luke Littler secured another major win by defeating Nathan Aspinall in the Premier League Night Five Final, but the teenage sensation has his sights set on more than just trophies—he wants the golden darts claimed by rivals Luke Humphries and Rob Cross.
Littler, fresh off his UK Open triumph, watched as both Humphries and Cross hit nine-darters during the night, earning themselves a £30,000 solid-gold dart set from event sponsors Bet MGM. Despite his victory, Littler admitted he was chasing those golden darts himself.
“I tried for those gold darts,” Littler said. “I’ve got a few weeks left.”
Humphries Hits Nine-Darter—But Did Sky Sports Show It?
Humphries landed the first nine-darter of the night during his quarter-final loss to Cross, and despite Sky Sports’ ongoing broadcast issues, the moment made it to TV.
“It’s a dream to do it on the big stage,” Humphries said. “Sky Sports… did it get shown? Maybe? That would have been well disappointing, wouldn’t it? Your first nine and they don’t even show it on TV—I’d have been gutted.”
He added: “A gold set of darts is amazing, so I’m really happy to win that. But of course, a little disappointed to lose the game. I’d rather have won, but it’s a nice little second prize, I guess.”
Cross Matches Humphries with Another Nine-Darter
Rob Cross followed up Humphries’ achievement with a nine-darter of his own, only to also lose his match to Aspinall, setting up the Final against Littler.
Littler proved too strong, cutting Humphries’ lead at the top of the table to just two points. Despite closing the gap, the 17-year-old remains focused on his bigger goal.
“Luke was so clear, but with him losing, I was concentrating on my own game,” Littler said. “This is why I picked up another trophy.”
“My main goal is the top four—just make it to the O2. That’s when the proper title defense takes place. I’ve always been confident in my ability, but the way my darts are going right now, this is probably the best I’ve ever played on a consistent basis. I can find those extra gears.”
With the Premier League heating up, Littler has both titles and gold in his sights as the competition heads into its next stage.
