Aryna Sabalenka suggests Mirra Andreeva may have made a ‘big mistake’ after beating her in the Indian Wells final
Mirra Andreeva Stuns Aryna Sabalenka to Win Indian Wells Title
Aryna Sabalenka’s wait for another title continues as Mirra Andreeva claimed a thrilling victory in the Indian Wells women’s singles final.
After falling short against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final earlier this year, Sabalenka was hoping to get back to winning ways. She managed to avenge that loss by defeating Keys in the semi-final but faced an inspired Andreeva in the championship match.
Despite winning the first set 6-2, the 17-year-old Russian staged a stunning comeback, securing the title with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over the world No.1.
Andreeva, clearly thrilled with her triumph, spoke afterward about her preferred playing surface and what this victory means for her career.
Sabalenka Issues Warning to Andreeva: “I Want a Rematch”
Sabalenka, known for her competitive spirit, was visibly disappointed but remained defiant. While she acknowledged Andreeva’s performance, she also hinted that the young star might have made a “big mistake” by beating her.
“Yeah, yeah, I want the rematch already. Maybe she made a big mistake right now, but it’s okay. I will let her enjoy the beautiful trophy,” Sabalenka joked during her on-court interview.
“But of course, in our next match, I’m going to fight even harder and make sure I don’t repeat the mistakes I made today.”
When asked if Andreeva’s performance had caught her off guard, Sabalenka quickly dismissed the idea.
“She didn’t surprise me. Honestly, it was me against me. I made too many unforced errors on key points and let her take control,” she admitted.
“Everything was going my way early on, but a few mistakes gave her confidence. After that, my level dropped, and I couldn’t find my rhythm again.”
Andreeva Poised for Grand Slam Breakthrough in 2025
At just 17 years old, Andreeva is proving she has the potential to become a dominant force in women’s tennis. Under the guidance of Conchita Martínez, she is making rapid strides and could soon be a major contender at Grand Slam events.
With a previous semi-final appearance at Roland Garros, Andreeva will now set her sights on going even further in 2025. Defeating Sabalenka in such a high-stakes match will only boost her confidence as she aims for her first Grand Slam title.
Winning Indian Wells marks the biggest achievement of her young career, and with her talent and determination, the future looks incredibly bright.
