Mirra Andreeva Reveals Bianca Andreescu as Her First Supporter on the WTA Tour
Mirra Andreeva recently shared that the first player to reach out and support her on the WTA Tour was Bianca Andreescu. The Canadian star messaged Andreeva two years ago during her debut tournament at the main level, offering guidance and encouragement.
In April 2023, a then-15-year-old Andreeva was making waves, winning back-to-back ITF titles before receiving a main-draw wildcard for the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid. She stunned the tennis world by winning her first three matches before falling to Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16. Even before her impressive run in Madrid—where she claimed victories over Leylah Fernandez, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Magda Linette—the Russian was already recognized as one of the most promising talents of her generation.
Andreeva: Andreescu Was the First and Only Female Player to Message Me
Speaking in Miami, Andreeva recalled the moment she received Andreescu’s message.
“After—or maybe even during the tournament—I got a message from Bianca Andreescu,” the 17-year-old revealed. “She was actually the first one, and I think she was the only female tennis player who texted me.”
“She told me that if I ever needed advice or support, I could always reach out to her for a chat or a call. She was super nice about it. She even texted me again after I won a tournament and sent me some really kind words.”
Now, just 40 days shy of her 18th birthday, Andreeva is a two-time WTA 1000 champion and the world No. 6.
While some may be surprised to hear that Andreescu was the first to support Andreeva, it makes sense given their similar trajectories. The Canadian was once considered one of the game’s most promising young stars, having won two WTA 1000 titles and the 2019 US Open at just 19 years old. Now 24, Andreescu’s career has been marked by both brilliance and setbacks, making her words of encouragement all the more meaningful for a rising star like Andreeva.
