Gerwyn Price Aims for Cardiff Glory After Dominating Luke Littler
Gerwyn Price is set to take center stage in Cardiff tonight as he looks to restore Welsh sporting pride following the national rugby team’s disappointing Six Nations campaign. The ‘Iceman’ faces Rob Cross in the BetMGM Premier League, hoping to deliver a performance that will lift spirits in his home country.
Price, a former rugby player himself, understands the weight of expectation as he returns to Welsh soil. He comes into the clash in red-hot form, having secured six consecutive victories over world champion Luke Littler, including a triumph in the final of Premier League Night 6.
Mental Edge Over Littler
The Welshman believes his composed approach has played a key role in his recent dominance over Littler.
“I don’t worry about who I’m playing. He’s just another number to me,” Price stated. “Maybe I might be in Luke’s head a little bit.”
No other player has managed to consistently overcome Littler’s incredible form in recent months, making Price’s streak all the more impressive.
Determined to Impress the Home Crowd
Price watched Wales’ rugby defeat while enjoying a short family holiday in Benidorm but is now fully focused on delivering for his home fans.
“I was watching the rugby last Saturday, but I was in sunny Benidorm for a couple of days with the family – so I was probably better off not watching,” he admitted.
Having once scored a try in the Welsh Challenge Cup final at the Millennium Stadium, Price is eager to lift the nation’s sporting spirits.
“I want to go out and perform for a Welsh crowd and give them something to cheer about,” he said.
Strong Track Record in Cardiff
Price will begin his campaign against Rob Cross in the quarter-finals, acknowledging that his opponent is in fine form.
“I think Rob is probably playing some of the best stuff he’s ever played,” he noted.
Cardiff holds fond memories for Price, who won on his homecoming last year with victories over Chris Dobey, Michael van Gerwen, and Nathan Aspinall. He also reached the final, ultimately losing to Michael Smith.
Despite his success, he admits that playing in front of his home fans brings added pressure.
“It’s one of the smaller venues in the Premier League, which sets the atmosphere apart,” he explained. “Cardiff is another level.”
However, the pressure comes from within.
“It’s just pressure that I put on myself. I don’t want to lose first round and not give something back to the crowd.”
Riding a Wave of Momentum
Price’s recent surge in form has been fueled by a more positive mindset. Currently third in the Premier League standings, he is coming off a successful night in Nottingham, where he defeated Stephen Bunting, Michael van Gerwen, and Luke Littler to claim five points and a £10,000 prize.
“My game is in a great place,” he reflected. “I think that’s probably down to me being a little bit more positive, enjoying the traveling, and enjoying the game in general a lot more.”
As he prepares for another night of high-stakes darts, Price will be aiming to extend his dominance over Littler and thrill the Cardiff crowd with another memorable performance.
