Jack Grealish Urged to Leave Manchester City to Revive England Career

Jack Grealish has been advised to leave Manchester City this summer if he hopes to secure a place in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. The 29-year-old winger, once a key player during City’s historic 2023 treble-winning campaign, has seen his role diminish under Pep Guardiola and has not started a Premier League match since December.

Former City midfielder Didi Hamann has suggested that Grealish must find a new club if he is serious about making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup in the USA. Hamann believes Grealish’s lack of game time is jeopardizing his international future and that a move away from City could be the best decision for his career.

“I think his situation at City depends on what the manager does,” said Hamann. “If Guardiola stays, I think Grealish will most certainly have to leave. Even if Pep were to go, he’s been at the club long enough, and while he has shown his ability in spells, he hasn’t featured consistently enough.”

Despite being a £100 million signing, Grealish has struggled for regular minutes and has lost his place in the England squad. Hamann highlighted that time is running out for the winger to establish himself ahead of the World Cup and emphasized the importance of regular first-team football.

“Looking ahead to the World Cup, if he wants to be part of that squad, he has to be playing regularly. You only get so many opportunities as a player, and I’m sure Tuchel has told him that he needs to move on to get that chance.”

Guardiola, whose contract runs until 2027, has faced speculation about his own future at City. Hamann suggested that after a challenging season, the City boss might choose to step away this summer rather than oversee another squad rebuild.

“When Pep signed his extension, it was to bring stability to the club amid the financial charges they faced,” said Hamann. “He’s been there a long time, and the challenge next season will be rebuilding the team. That takes a lot of patience and energy, and I’m not sure he has either right now.”

While Guardiola’s future remains uncertain, Grealish faces a pivotal decision in his career. If he wants to reignite his England prospects and play a key role at the next World Cup, a fresh start away from Manchester City might be his best option.
