He is not the type to seek approval from his rivals or keep his mouth shut, demonstrating this yet again after losing to Jannik Sinner in the 2025 Australian Open round of 16. There was interest in what Holger Rune would say at the press conference, and he did not disappoint, complaining about the length of the medical time-out the Italian took when he was struggling.

Losing never feels good, especially when it seemed like a unique opportunity to achieve a memorable victory. Holger Rune appeared at the press conference satisfied with his level of play but also somewhat resentful of the defeat against Jannik Sinner and how it happened. The Dane says goodbye to the 2025 Australian Open by leaving behind statements that can be interpreted as a complaint or a certain skepticism about what happened to the Italian.

“It was obviously a very hot and humid day. I was suffering too. It’s fair that they checked Jannik for any problems, but I think the medical time-out lasted too long and it was brutal to stand still for more than ten minutes in the middle of a set. I was feeling good at that moment, so it was a shame that he had to leave the court for further checks and I don’t know what they did because when he came back he looked great,” the Dane declared.

When asked about his gameplay sensations, Holger wanted to remain positive. “In the first set he was better and I was in the second. The match we had in the third set was spectacular until the break. The conditions were very tough and I was exhausted, to be honest. “I sat in the heat for almost 12 minutes waiting for him to come back, it affected me physically, I have to be smarter next time,” he admitted.

“I have to find a way to win my previous matches without having to spend so much time, because to compete with people like Sinner I have to be very fresh. I am happy with the work I am doing, but disappointed that I could not advance. I feel that I am playing better every time and I have good feelings,” argued Holger Rune as he says goodbye to the Australian Open in 2025 and looks forward to the future for new challenges.
