Djokovic Sets the Record Straight

In an interview with GQ, Djokovic participated in a word association game, offering quick descriptions of fellow tennis stars. He labeled Roger Federer as “elegance,” Rafael Nadal as “tenacity,” and Carlos Alcaraz as “charisma.” However, his choice of “skiing” for Sinner raised eyebrows, leading some to speculate that it was a slight against the world No.1.

Speaking ahead of his Australian Open opener against Nishesh Basavareddy, Djokovic dismissed the controversy:

“I’ve seen it on social media, and people are making it into a drama, as if I disrespected him. That’s ridiculous. It was a quick-fire quiz, and when Sinner’s name came up, I instantly thought of skiing because I saw a video of him skiing recently. We always talk about skiing and even plan to go together someday. My response had nothing to do with his tennis abilities.”

Praise for Sinner

Djokovic went on to commend Sinner’s dominance, acknowledging his talent and success:

“It is as clear as day that the way he is playing deserves praise. His level of play and style are outstanding. He possesses all the qualities I mentioned about others, and to suggest I am disrespecting him is nonsense.”

Sinner, who secured two Grand Slam titles in 2024, begins his Australian Open campaign against Chile’s Nicholas Jarry.
