Hartlepool’s New Darts Academy Draws Huge Turnout at Launch Event

More than 100 young players attended the launch of St Mary’s Darts Academy at The Travellers Rest pub in Hartlepool, driven by the growing popularity of the sport and the “Luke Littler effect.”

Littler, who became the youngest darts world champion at just 17 years old, has inspired a surge of interest, particularly among young players eager to follow in his footsteps.

A New Hub for Young Talent

Founded by Derek and Suzie Grazier, St Mary’s Darts Academy welcomes aspiring players aged 7 to 17. Named in honor of Derek’s late mother, it is the only Junior Darts Corporation (JDC)-accredited academy in the North East.

“This is the Luke Littler effect,” said Derek. “Darts is huge right now, and everybody wants to be the next big star.”

The open day featured seven dartboards for attendees to test their skills, including 13-year-old Logan Stead, who has been playing for a year. “I’m with my mates playing—it’s fun,” he said.

Suzie added: “I knew there was interest, but I didn’t expect such a huge crowd when we opened the doors.”

Academy Details & Expansion Plans

St Mary’s Darts Academy will run sessions at 4:15 PM and 6:00 PM on Tuesdays, starting March 25. Due to high demand, a third session is being planned, and Derek is exploring additional venues outside Hartlepool.

There are two membership options:
