Mirra Andreeva Sets Another Milestone with Miami Open Victory
Russia’s rising tennis star Mirra Andreeva continues to make waves on the WTA Tour, reaching yet another impressive milestone. The 17-year-old, already regarded as a future Grand Slam contender, has been delivering standout performances in recent tournaments.
Currently competing at the Miami Open, Andreeva cruised past Veronika Kudermetova in the round of 64, securing a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory. With this win, she becomes the first player—male or female—to notch 20 match wins in 2025, edging ahead of Madison Keys, the Australian Open champion, and Iga Swiatek, the world No. 2. Both players are close behind with 19 wins each.
The triumph in Miami follows Andreeva’s sensational title run at Indian Wells, where she defeated reigning world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback victory.
After her win on Friday, Andreeva acknowledged that she is still adjusting to the conditions.
“Honestly, I feel like I still need a little more time to get used to the conditions, so I just tried to put as many balls in the court as I could and focus on defense,” Andreeva said. “She was serving well and hitting deep, powerful shots, so I just had to hang in there. But overall, it felt good.”
Up next, Andreeva will take on Amanda Anisimova in the round of 32 on Sunday. The 23-year-old American advanced after a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mayar Sherif in the previous round.
