The 23-year-old notched back-to-back victories for the first time since the Australian Open, overcoming Navarro in a tense three-set battle at the Miami Open. Raducanu prevailed in two tiebreaks to reach the third round, marking her first-ever appearance at this stage of a WTA 1000 tournament.

Raducanu on Tactical Shift That Sealed the Win

Raducanu initially held the upper hand against Navarro but faltered in the second set, losing 6-2. With Navarro’s strong track record in three-set matches, the American seemed poised to complete the comeback. However, Raducanu made a decisive tactical shift that turned the match in her favor.

“I had moments where I was too defensive and just running,” Raducanu admitted post-match. “But in the big points, in the third set and even in the first-set tiebreak, I committed to going for my shots. At 6-6 in both tiebreaks, I told myself that if I was going to lose, it wouldn’t be by playing passively.”

She added, “I realized my most successful tennis comes when I take the ball early and attack. Even when I missed some shots, I knew I was making the right decisions, and that’s what ultimately paid off.”

Raducanu’s Next Opponent in Miami

Following her biggest win of the season, Raducanu now faces another American, McCartney Kessler, in the third round. Kessler has been in impressive form, defeating Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova in Dubai before reaching the ATX Open final, where she fell to Jessica Pegula.

In the second round, Kessler staged a comeback to defeat Linda Nosková, and she’ll be looking to extend her momentum against Raducanu in their first career meeting.

Raducanu Reflects on Career Progress

This victory marked a significant milestone for Raducanu, as she recorded her first career hard-court win against a top-10 player. The Brit, now ranked world No. 60, reflected on how this triumph felt different from her remarkable 2021 US Open run.

“Emotionally, this one means a lot,” Raducanu shared. “At the US Open, I won 10 matches in straight sets. I didn’t experience the losses, the struggles, or the months of tough results. This time, coming through that makes it even more special.”

Now, Raducanu looks to build on this momentum as she continues her Miami Open campaign.
