Jack Grealish Open to Manchester City Exit Amid Newcastle Interest

Manchester City star Jack Grealish is reportedly considering a move away from the Etihad, with Carabao Cup winners Newcastle United emerging as a potential destination.

Frustration at City

Grealish, 29, became the most expensive English footballer in history when he joined City from Aston Villa for £100m in 2021. Despite a challenging debut season, he played a pivotal role in City’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2022/23, featuring in 50 matches as the club lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

However, his influence has since diminished. In 2025, Grealish has spent more time on the bench than on the pitch, struggling to compete with emerging talents Savinho and Jeremy Doku. Manager Pep Guardiola has repeatedly challenged him to “prove” he deserves more minutes, but opportunities have been scarce.

Newcastle: A Fresh Start?

According to Chronicle Live, Grealish’s representatives believe a move to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle could be the perfect way to revive his career and boost his chances of an England recall ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Grealish was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad for qualifiers against Albania and Latvia, having played just 600 minutes of Premier League football this season—equivalent to six full matches and an extra hour. In 2025, he has managed just 34 minutes on the pitch, with six games spent as an unused substitute.

Newcastle on the Rise

While Grealish’s career has stalled, Newcastle’s trajectory is heading in the opposite direction. Their Carabao Cup victory—secured with goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak in a 2-1 win over Liverpool—ended a 70-year wait for silverware and guaranteed them a spot in European competition next season.

A move to Tyneside would not be without competition, as Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes are already strong contenders for Grealish’s preferred left-wing role. However, the chance to be a key player in an ambitious project under Eddie Howe could be too tempting to ignore.

What’s Next?

As the summer transfer window approaches, Grealish’s future at Manchester City remains uncertain. Whether he fights for his place under Guardiola or seeks a new challenge at Newcastle, his next move could define the latter stages of his career.
