Gerwyn Price took a playful swipe at Luke Littler during the European Darts Trophy, despite the teen star sitting out the event. Price, riding high after a 6-4 victory over Ryan Searle in the second round, showcased his form with a 100-plus average in Germany. Post-match, he learned he’d won six straight against Searle, dubbed “Heavy Metal,” prompting a cheeky dig at another player he’s owned lately—Littler.
“Six in a row? You sure his name’s not Luke?” Price quipped, grinning. “Just kidding! I don’t track how often I’ve beaten guys. I play everyone the same up there—that’s why I’ve got Luke’s number so much. I focus on my game, and when the crowd’s with me like today, it’s a blast and I win.” Indeed, Price has downed Littler in their last six clashes since April 2024, including a Premier League night win in Nottingham earlier this month.
While he enjoys the bragging rights, Price insists it’s all respect for “The Nuke.” “I wanted another W over Luke,” he told Sky Sports in Nottingham. “He’s the best right now and will be for years. I rave about him daily—he’ll smash Phil Taylor’s 16 world titles. No one in the PDC can stop him, maybe just some JDC kids. He’s only getting sharper.”
Price’s next test is Dutch youngster Wessel Nijman in the last 16 on Sunday. Littler opted out, but heavyweights like Rob Cross, Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries, and Gary Anderson are still in the mix at the European Darts Trophy. For Price, the “Iceman,” it’s business as usual—racking up wins and tossing jabs, all while tipping his cap to darts’ next big thing.
