Luke Littler Condemns Fan Behavior After Pint Thrown at Nathan Aspinall in Brighton
Luke Littler has criticized a darts fan after a drink was thrown at his opponent, Nathan Aspinall, ahead of their Premier League final in Brighton.
Aspinall was targeted during his walk-on before Littler went on to secure a 6-3 victory, claiming his second nightly title of the season.
The incident follows growing concerns over fan behavior in the sport, with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) recently condemning whistling and booing during the Glasgow leg of the competition. The PDC has stated that it works closely with venues and takes “proactive and decisive action” against inappropriate fan behavior.
The Independent has contacted the PDC for comment on the latest disruption in Brighton.
Littler Calls Out Unruly Fans
Speaking after his victory, Littler expressed his disbelief at the incident.
“I think there was a pint thrown at Nathan as soon as he came up on the stage. Crazy,” he said.
When asked about the crowd’s behavior, he acknowledged the mixed atmosphere at events.
“I think we all know some fans have been great, and some have been a bit bad. But that’s darts fans for you—they’re either good or bad,” Littler added.
Littler Extends Premier League Title Push
Littler, who had earlier defeated Michael van Gerwen 6-2 in the semi-finals, took an early 3-1 lead in the final. Aspinall responded with a break of throw to level at 3-3, but Littler regained control by breaking back in the seventh leg before closing out the match.
With his second nightly title secured, Littler now sits just two points behind Luke Humphries at the top of the Premier League table. Humphries, who also has two nightly wins, remains in first place with 15 points, while Aspinall and van Gerwen are tied on eight.
Reflecting on his performance, Littler told Sky Sports:
“Luke (Humphries) was clear, but with him losing, I was just focused on my own game. Coming off the back of the UK Open, I was playing really well, and I think I performed at a high level tonight—that’s why I picked up another trophy.”
With a spot in the top four and qualification for the O2 finals in his sights, Littler is setting his sights on further success.
“My main goal is obviously to finish in the top four and make it to the O2—that’s where the proper title defense takes place,” he said.
“My focus now shifts to the Euro Tour. I’ve always been confident in my ability, but the way my darts are going in right now, this is probably the best and most consistent I’ve ever played.”
