Iga Swiatek Increases Security After Harassment at Miami Open
Iga Swiatek has heightened her security measures following an unsettling incident at the Miami Open. The Polish star, a five-time Grand Slam champion, was approached by a man during a training session, who allegedly shouted abusive remarks referencing her mother and psychologist, Daria Abramowicz.
Following the incident, Swiatek’s PR manager confirmed to Super Express Sport that additional security measures have been implemented. “We are monitoring these situations closely. Threats, hate speech, or disruptions to the team cannot be tolerated. We reported the matter to the WTA and tournament organizers, who responded swiftly with increased security.”
This follows a similar event earlier in the year involving Emma Raducanu at the Dubai Tennis Championships, where a man displaying “fixed behavior” was removed from the venue. Raducanu acknowledged the need for heightened security, stating, “I’m always aware and never alone anymore.”
Both Swiatek and Raducanu are competing in the Miami Open quarter-finals, with Swiatek facing Alexandra Eala and Raducanu set to take on Jessica Pegula.
