Paula Badosa Withdraws from Charleston Open Amid Ongoing Back Issues

Paula Badosa has officially withdrawn from the Credit One Charleston Open, citing a persistent back injury that has plagued her throughout the season. The Spaniard, who initially suffered the setback at the Merida Open Akron, had already missed Indian Wells before attempting a comeback at the Miami Open. However, her struggles continued, and she was forced to pull out mid-tournament.

Badosa was scheduled to face Alexandra Eala on Monday but withdrew due to a flare-up of her chronic back condition. With this latest setback, she has announced she will step away from competition indefinitely to focus entirely on recovery, raising concerns about her immediate future in the sport.

A Difficult Road Back

The former world No. 2 has been battling a stress fracture in her L4 and L5 vertebrae, a condition she first detailed earlier this year during the Australian Open. “It wasn’t recovering properly, and the facet joints were inflamed all the time,” Badosa explained. “Every time I tried to do exercises, I had to stop because my body wasn’t responding well.”

She also revealed the concerning reliance on injections to manage the pain. “They told me I could only have three a year, and by April, I was already on my second. I was really pushing my limits.”

Uncertain Timeline for Return

Badosa has now opted for a full recovery process rather than risking further injury with short-term fixes. As a result, fans may not see her return until the clay court season at the earliest. The 26-year-old took to Instagram to express her frustration and hopes for a strong comeback.

“Hello everyone, as you know, I had to withdraw from Miami and upcoming tournaments. It’s really tough dealing with this pain and the cycle of stopping and coming back over and over again. Now, it’s time to fully commit to my recovery. Hopefully, I’ll be back soon.”

With Badosa’s history of resilience, supporters remain hopeful that she can overcome this challenging period and reclaim her place among the sport’s elite. For now, all eyes are on her road to recovery as she steps away from competition once again.
