Emma Raducanu Provides Health Update After Miami Open Scare
Emma Raducanu has shed light on the medical attention she required during her Miami Open quarter-final against world No.4 Jessica Pegula, after experiencing dizziness on court.
The British No.2, who has shown glimpses of her best form in Miami, battled through a physically demanding match but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 to Pegula. Concerns arose in the second set when Raducanu needed her vitals checked after feeling unwell. A doctor took her blood pressure and provided ice towels to cool her down before she remarkably rallied to force a deciding set.
Speaking after the match, Raducanu attributed her condition to the extreme humidity and physical toll of the encounter. “I just felt really dizzy. I felt faint. It was very humid out there, and we had a long wait. Maybe it was just an accumulation of things—long rallies, heavy conditions—but I don’t know how I regrouped in that second set. In the third, I definitely struggled a little bit.”
Despite the setback, Raducanu finished the match and appeared to be in good spirits as she left the court. Meanwhile, Pegula will now face 19-year-old wild card Alexandra Eala, who pulled off a stunning upset against world No.2 Iga Świątek to book her place in the semi-finals.
Pegula praised Raducanu’s resilience, acknowledging the match’s intensity. “It was tough. I played a good first set, had a little letdown in the second, but she started moving the ball really well and serving great. In the third, I knew I had to start strong and not let it get too close.”
While Raducanu’s Miami Open run has come to an end, her performance signals a promising return to form as she continues to build momentum on the WTA Tour.
