Djokovic Gains Momentum in Miami, Eyes 100th Career Title
Novak Djokovic arrived in Miami with lingering doubts, particularly after a disappointing second-round exit at Indian Wells against Botic van de Zandschulp. However, the Serbian star has responded emphatically, reaching the Miami Open quarterfinals without dropping a set and steadily improving his form.
His most dominant performance came in the Round of 16, where he dismantled Lorenzo Musetti with a flawless display. Now 37, Djokovic is chasing his 100th career title but acknowledges the challenges ahead, especially given his inconsistent Masters 1000 form since the 2024 Shanghai Masters, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in the final.
His next test is against American Sebastian Korda, who battled past Gael Monfils in a rain-affected marathon match. The two have met once before, in the 2023 Adelaide ATP 250 final, where Djokovic edged Korda in a thrilling contest.
Musetti, who won just four games against Djokovic, warned the remaining field about the Serbian’s resurgence:
“Nole has improved even more since the last time I faced him. It’s hard to believe, but that’s how it is. I managed to impose my game only at the start, but after that, I couldn’t trouble him. At one point, he was simply unplayable.”
Despite his dominant form, maintaining such a high level at nearly 38 remains a challenge. But with history on the line, Djokovic is once again proving why he’s one of the greatest to ever play the game.
