Emma Raducanu Taking a Step Back to Reassess After Miami Open
Emma Raducanu has opened up about her future plans following her impressive run to the Miami Open quarterfinals.
A Hard-Fought Battle in Miami
In a gripping quarterfinal clash at the Miami Open, Jessica Pegula overcame Raducanu in a three-set thriller: 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2. The intense, 2-hour-and-25-minute contest was made even tougher by Miami’s humid conditions, which affected several players throughout the day—including Raducanu.
During the second set, the British star took a medical timeout, appearing to suffer from overheating. She was treated with ice bags, and her vitals were checked before she was cleared to continue.
Despite the loss, Raducanu remained positive, reflecting on her performance with pride. She acknowledged that her competitive spirit—something she felt had been lacking—was evident throughout the tournament.
“I can take some good positives from this week and look forward now,” Raducanu said in her post-match press conference.
Health Struggles and Uncertain Future Plans
Discussing the medical timeout, Raducanu explained:
“I just felt really dizzy. I felt faint. It was very humid out there, and we had a long wait, so maybe it was just an accumulation. There were physical points as well, with long rallies and heavy conditions. I don’t know how I kind of regrouped in that second set, but in the third, I definitely struggled a little bit.”
Following her strong showing in Miami, Raducanu is unsure of her next tournament and plans to take a short break.
“I’m not sure what’s next. I think I need to take a beat and re-evaluate what I’m doing. This week was good, but I just need to figure things out and make a plan from there,” she said.
Overcoming Challenges and Building Momentum
Raducanu’s decision to pause comes after a turbulent stretch, including injury setbacks, a frightening moment in Dubai, and yet another coaching change following Indian Wells.
However, her performance in Miami signals a potential return to form. She notched four consecutive victories, including a top-10 win over Emma Navarro and a top-20 triumph against Amanda Anisimova.
Best of all, she appears injury-free, and her serve looks sharper than ever.
