Novak Djokovic Advances to Miami Open Final with Dominant Victory Over Grigor Dimitrov
Novak Djokovic delivered a commanding performance to secure his place in the Miami Open final, dismantling Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour. This victory marks his first final appearance in nearly six months, with his last coming at the Shanghai Masters in October 2024.
A Shot at History
The 24-time Grand Slam champion is now just one win away from claiming his 100th career title, a milestone achieved by only two other male players—Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Roger Federer (103 titles). Djokovic will face either Taylor Fritz or Jakub Mensik in Sunday’s championship match.
Djokovic Feels His Best Since Paris 2024
After a rough start to the season, including a three-match losing streak across the Australian Open, Qatar Open, and Indian Wells, Djokovic appears to have rediscovered his best form. The 37-year-old confidently shared that he feels as strong as he did during the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he won a long-awaited gold medal.
“It feels great, obviously without dropping a set. I thought I wouldn’t beat my last match’s first serve percentage, but it went from 83% to 87%. Now I know how it feels to be John Isner or Ivo Karlovic—makes life a lot easier on the court,” Djokovic joked during his interview with Sky Sports.
Tricky Conditions, but No Complaints
Despite dealing with swirling winds, Djokovic maintained full control of his match against Dimitrov.
“The conditions were tricky, the wind was inconsistent and shifting a lot, but I haven’t dropped a set, and I feel the best I have since the Olympics last year,” he stated.
His dominant serving has been a key factor in his resurgence. Against Dimitrov, he missed just six first serves and delivered another strong performance after defeating Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals.
“Best shot this tournament? Without a doubt, my first serve. You can’t beat 80%+ first-serve accuracy in consecutive matches,” he added.
Heavy Favorite for the Final
Djokovic holds a 10-0 record against Fritz and 1-0 against Mensik, making him the clear favorite in Sunday’s final. If victorious, he will further cement his legacy as one of tennis’ greatest champions.
