“The sky is the limit”: Martina Navratilova backs Emma Raducanu to reach new heights with stable coaching
Martina Navratilova Backs Emma Raducanu: “The Sky is the Limit”
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova believes Emma Raducanu has immense potential, provided she finds stability in her coaching team. The 2021 US Open champion has faced ongoing struggles in maintaining a consistent coaching partnership, most recently parting ways with Vladimir Platenik after just a few weeks.
Raducanu’s Coaching Carousel & Recent Success
Following wrist surgeries last year, Raducanu worked with Nick Cavadat, but they split in January. She then enlisted Platenik as an advisor, only for the collaboration to end shortly after. Despite her coaching instability, Raducanu reached her first-ever WTA 1000 quarterfinal at the Miami Open, where she also secured her first top-10 win on hard courts by defeating Emma Navarro.
She ultimately fell to Jessica Pegula, who went on to reach the final, but the strong showing helped Raducanu climb to World No. 47—her best ranking since 2022. With few points to defend in the upcoming months, Navratilova is optimistic about Raducanu’s progress.
Navratilova’s Take on Raducanu’s Future
“If she stays healthy and keeps playing this well, she’ll be seeded at Roland Garros,” Navratilova stated. “I think she’ll break into the top 30. The biggest question is her health.”
The 18-time Grand Slam champion also emphasized the importance of coaching stability:
“Hopefully, she can sort out her coaching situation. She’s been in a state of flux, but she needs to commit to someone and give it time. If she plays like she did against Pegula, then the sky’s the limit.”
What’s Next for Raducanu?
With momentum on her side, Raducanu will look to build on her Miami Open success as she heads into the clay season.
