Darts Star Blasts Gary Neville Over “Disrespectful” Question to Luke Littler on Podcast
A former darts professional has hit out at Gary Neville for what he called a “disrespectful” question asked to teenage darts sensation Luke Littler during a recent episode of the Stick To Football podcast.
Littler, who shot to fame after a remarkable run to the 2024 PDC World Championship final, has only grown in stature since. The young star from Warrington secured the world title this year by comfortably defeating Michael van Gerwen and currently leads the 2025 Premier League standings.
The 17-year-old recently appeared on Stick To Football, the Sky Bet podcast hosted by Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Ian Wright, and Jill Scott. But one moment didn’t sit well with two-time major winner Colin Lloyd.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Lloyd took issue with a segment where Neville asked Littler if he could calculate a checkout from three randomly selected numbers.
“I actually thought that was a disrespectful question,” Lloyd said. “Of course we’d know—it’s our job. We’re professional dart players. Our game is numbers.”
He added: “It’s like me saying to Gary Neville, ‘If I kicked a ball towards goal, could you slide in and clear it off the line?’ Well yeah, because he’s a defender. So why ask about numbers like it’s some magic trick?”
Lloyd also criticized the podcast panel for their lack of understanding of the sport: “Was it Ian Wright who said, ‘He could call any number against us, we wouldn’t know’? Do your research, fellas. How unprofessional did they look? They’re disrespecting the sport by not doing their homework.”
SPORTbible has reached out to Gary Neville’s representatives for comment.
Elsewhere in the episode, Littler revealed some behind-the-scenes antics involving rival Michael van Gerwen.
“Before every match, we throw for nearest the bull to decide who starts. Every time I go up to Michael, he tries to get in my head about hitting the bull first—but I always beat him to it,” Littler said with a grin.
