Novak Djokovic continues to solidify his legacy as one of the greatest players in tennis history, particularly at the Masters 1000 level, where he has dominated for years. Djokovic holds virtually every notable Masters 1000 record, including the most titles, finals, semi-finals, victories, and matches.
Although he was unable to secure his 41st Masters 1000 title in Miami, falling to Jakub Mensik in a tight final decided by two tiebreaks, Djokovic’s legacy grew even stronger with yet another remarkable achievement at the prestigious ATP events.
By reaching the final in Miami, Djokovic became the first player in history to appear in a Masters 1000 final for 18 consecutive seasons, surpassing both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who each have 17 seasons.
Djokovic’s journey in the Masters 1000 finals began in 2007, when he played in his first final at just 19 years old, in both Indian Wells and Miami. In the years that followed, Djokovic became one of the most consistent players at this level, despite a brief setback in 2010, when he missed out on a final appearance that year.
However, Djokovic bounced back in 2011, starting an era of dominance at the Masters 1000 level with an impressive 33-1 run, winning five titles from six finals. Since then, he has never missed a Masters 1000 final, maintaining his consistency and hunger for more records. In 2023, his only Masters 1000 final came in Shanghai, but it was enough to extend his streak and tie Federer and Nadal with 17 seasons of at least one Masters 1000 final.
In 2025, Djokovic is poised to play in more Masters 1000 events, including four or five in the first half of the year. Although he suffered an early loss in Indian Wells, the six-time champion bounced back in Miami, defeating five opponents to reach his 60th Masters 1000 final at 37 years old.
Chasing his 100th ATP title, Djokovic ultimately fell short in the final against Mensik, with the match ending 7-6, 7-6 after two hours and three minutes. Both players won 76 points, but it was the young Mensik who held his nerve in the tiebreaks, clinching the crucial points to secure the victory.
Now, Djokovic turns his focus to Monte Carlo, where he will continue his pursuit of the milestone title.
