Alexander Zverev addressed the speculation surrounding his relationship with tennis legend Boris Becker after the two were seen practicing together in Monte Carlo. When asked about the rumors that Becker might be his new coach, Zverev gave a measured response, emphasizing his strong bond with the six-time Grand Slam champion but not confirming any changes to his coaching setup.
“I have a great connection with Boris. If anything happens, we’ll let you know,” Zverev told Sky Sport DE. “In the meantime, you can speculate and make a story out of it. I’m not saying anything about it.”
The German tennis star was spotted practicing in Monte Carlo with Becker sitting courtside ahead of the start of the clay season’s first Masters 1000 event. For years, especially in Germany, fans have often suggested that Zverev hire Becker, and the recent sighting only fueled those speculations.
Becker Reflects on Zverev’s Recent Struggles
Boris Becker, who has worked closely with Zverev in the past, recently shared his thoughts on the world No. 2’s struggles. On the Becker-Petkovic podcast, the 57-year-old attributed Zverev’s recent dip in form to a loss of confidence.
“I always start with the mental attitude,” Becker said. “He is not as convinced of himself at the moment as he was in Melbourne or at the end of last year.”
Zverev, who reached the Australian Open final in January, hasn’t quite recovered from his heartbreaking defeat to Jannik Sinner in the championship match. Since then, he has struggled, with a record of just 6-5.
It remains to be seen if Becker will officially join Zverev’s team and help him regain his momentum as the clay season unfolds. Zverev has reached the semifinals in Monte Carlo twice in the past, and this could be an opportunity for him to reignite his form.
