Luke Littler and crowd goes wild for Gerwyn Price’s nine-darter – but teen ends barren run against him
Gerwyn Price may have delivered a perfect nine-dart finish, but it was Luke Littler who walked away victorious in a thrilling Premier League Darts quarter-final clash in Manchester.
In front of a raucous home crowd, Littler ended a six-match losing streak against the Welshman with a commanding 6–3 win—his first over Price in 312 days.
The 18-year-old phenom came out firing, storming to a 5–1 lead and appearing to cruise toward the finish line. But Price, never one to go down quietly, ignited the AO Arena with a stunning nine-darter that had fans on their feet and drinks flying through the air.
Price opened the moment of perfection with back-to-back 180s and closed it with a 141 checkout—treble 19, treble 20, and a clinical double 12.
Even Littler couldn’t help but admire the brilliance, shaking hands with his opponent and joining in with the crowd’s roar of approval. Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle summed it up best:
“Get in there, pal! Magnificent, absolutely magnificent.”
Despite Price’s heroics and a brief rally to cut the lead to 5–3, Littler held his nerve. The reigning world champion calmly closed out the match with a 52 checkout, sealing the win on double 20 before turning to the crowd and pointing to his watch—cheekily suggesting, “about time.”
Statistically, it was a high-level showdown. Littler posted a 103.93 average to Price’s 103.47, though Price outpaced him in 180s, hitting five to Littler’s one.
Next up for Littler: a semi-final matchup against Luke Humphries, who cruised past Stephen Bunting 6–1 while recording an astonishing 118.4 average—the third-highest in Premier League history.
