Alex de Minaur’s Secret Motivation? His Wedding Budget!
Alex de Minaur is known for his relentless drive on the tennis court—but his latest source of motivation might just surprise you. After dismantling Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 6-2 at the Monte Carlo Masters, the Aussie revealed what’s currently fueling his fire: planning a wedding.
“I’m trying to earn some big bucks for this wedding budget,” de Minaur laughed in an interview with Tennis Channel. “That’s honestly what’s on my mind—win as many matches as I can, because I’ve started looking at venues and let me tell you, it’s expensive!”
De Minaur is engaged to British tennis star Katie Boulter, and while he joked about the financial pressure of wedding planning, his form on court is no laughing matter.
A Hunger That Never Left
After breaking into the ATP Top 10 for the first time in 2024, de Minaur hit a setback with a hip injury during Wimbledon. It limited his trademark explosiveness and left him with unfinished business.
Now in 2025, he’s made a roaring comeback, leading the ATP Tour with 19 match wins so far this season. That drive to improve, he says, only intensified during the off-season.
“End of last year, I wasn’t at 100 percent, and that just made me hungrier,” he said. “Right after Davis Cup and Turin, I took just two days off before diving into preseason. I saw what I could do even when not at my best physically—so I knew if I could get healthy again, I could take it to another level.”
Mastering the Clay
De Minaur has long been known for his speed and grit, but clay courts weren’t always his forte. That’s changed in a big way. Before 2023, he held a losing record on the surface (15-20). Since then, he’s 16-10—including a 12-5 run starting in 2024.
The key? Adapting his style.
“I’ve learned to play with more shape, more variety,” he explained. “On hard courts, my flatter shots work. But on clay, I’ve had to evolve—use height, spin, angles, and depth to open the court and still be aggressive when the chance comes.”
That tactical evolution is paying off. Now ranked World No.10, de Minaur will face either Grigor Dimitrov or Alejandro Tabilo in the Monte Carlo quarterfinals—firmly in the mix for a deep run.
Whether it’s wedding bills or championship trophies, Alex de Minaur’s motivation is clearly working. And if he keeps up this form, Katie Boulter might just get the fairy-tale wedding of her dreams—courtesy of some world-class tennis.
