Mixed Emotions for Tennis Couple: Boulter Shines as De Minaur Falls Short

It was a night of contrasting emotions for tennis stars Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter. Boulter led Great Britain to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, while her fiancé De Minaur suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinals.

De Minaur stunned fans earlier in the week with a rare “double bagel” 6-0, 6-0 win over World No. 18 Grigor Dimitrov and a dominant victory over Daniil Medvedev. However, his dream run ended with a tough 6-1, 4-6, 6-7(4) loss to Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Had he won, De Minaur would’ve been the first Aussie to reach the Monte Carlo final since John Newcombe in 1969.

Despite the disappointment, the 25-year-old will climb to a career-high World No. 7 in the ATP rankings.

Meanwhile, Boulter showcased her resilience in the BJK Cup. After a rough singles loss to Suzan Lamens, she bounced back in the deciding doubles match, teaming with Jodie Burrage to beat the Netherlands 6-2, 6-2 and secure Britain’s spot in the finals.

“We gave it our all,” Burrage said. “We’ll definitely celebrate with a few bevvies.”

A Curious Pattern for the Couple

Interestingly, the couple seem to thrive when competing separately. Neither has achieved significant success at major tournaments while playing at the same events. At Indian Wells and Miami earlier this year, both struggled to make a deep run. Whether it’s coincidence or something more, it’s a trend fans have started to notice.

Still, with both players now gaining momentum, they’ll look to carry their strong form into the upcoming summer swing.
