Jessica Pegula has addressed the end of her highly successful doubles partnership with Coco Gauff, confirming that the pair are no longer competing together due to the demanding nature of the WTA schedule.

“Coco and I played a lot together for a couple of years—we did great, had many good results, and really incredible memories,” Pegula said during a press conference at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. “At the same time, we were both doing well in singles, so we didn’t want to play doubles as much anymore. The schedule becomes very, very tough.”

Pegula admitted that doubles has taken a back seat in 2025. She’s played very few events in that format so far this season and doesn’t plan to participate in doubles at any of the Grand Slams this year.

“I don’t think I’ll play any Grand Slams in doubles because the schedule is just too hard. I always feel like eventually I’ll have to retire [from doubles] or something like that,” she said. “But I still love playing doubles when I can.”

A Winning Duo, A Demanding Tour

Pegula and Gauff were one of the WTA’s most successful pairs in recent years, reaching No. 1 in the doubles rankings, winning multiple WTA 1000 titles, and finishing runners-up at Roland Garros. But as their singles careers soared, the physical and mental toll of balancing both disciplines became increasingly difficult to manage.

As they now focus on singles success, both players are preparing to compete in the Stuttgart Open, where they’ll be aiming to add more titles to their already impressive individual résumés.
