Andy Roddick believes Emma Raducanu could have great success working with Mark Petchey – “She looked like a top 10 player in Miami”
Former world No.1 Andy Roddick has expressed confidence in Emma Raducanu’s potential resurgence, highlighting her recent performances and the impact of working with LTA coach Mark Petchey.
Raducanu, who stunned the world by winning the 2021 US Open as a qualifier, has struggled to find stability since, rotating through several coaches and facing persistent injury setbacks. Her ranking has declined, and consistent results have proven elusive.
However, Roddick believes the British star may have found the right support in Petchey, who worked with Raducanu during her junior years. While Petchey is not currently part of her official coaching team, their collaboration during her 2025 campaign appears promising.
“She looked like a top 10 player in Miami,” Roddick said on his Served podcast. “She looked relaxed and very comfortable. I love that fit. Mark Petchey has a great tennis brain.”
Raducanu kicked off her 2025 season with a solid third-round showing at the Australian Open but struggled in early rounds afterward. Her form turned around in Miami, where she defeated top Americans Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova before falling in the quarterfinals to Jessica Pegula.
Roddick’s praise suggests a renewed belief in Raducanu’s potential — especially if she builds a more consistent coaching relationship. Whether Petchey becomes a long-term fixture remains to be seen, but their recent chemistry has many hopeful.
