Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on signing Manchester City star Jack Grealish as they prepare for a crucial summer rebuild, though one major hurdle could complicate any potential deal.

With Spurs languishing in 15th place in the Premier League following a 4-2 defeat to Wolves, the club is desperate to strengthen their squad — and Grealish has emerged as a top target.

However, manager Ange Postecoglou is currently fighting to save his job, with reports suggesting he must guide Tottenham past Eintracht Frankfurt in their Europa League quarter-final second leg on Thursday to avoid the sack.

Game Time and Wages the Key Issues in Grealish Deal

Grealish has endured a frustrating campaign at City, making just seven Premier League starts this season. He’s featured 30 times across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing five assists — most recently netting in City’s 2-0 win over Leicester on April 2.

Tottenham believe they could offer the 29-year-old significantly more regular playing time, which may appeal to Grealish as he looks to revive his career after missing out on England’s Euro 2024 squad.

But despite limited minutes under Pep Guardiola, Grealish is reportedly still happy at the Etihad Stadium, and his high wages are proving to be a major stumbling block for Spurs, according to TBR Football (16 April).

A Signing That Could Benefit Both Sides

Tottenham are in desperate need of quality reinforcements, and Grealish could fit the bill. The former Aston Villa captain was instrumental in City’s treble-winning campaign in 2022/23, scoring five goals and recording 11 assists.

Although his role has diminished since then, a move to North London could offer Grealish a fresh start and boost his chances of returning to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

From Tottenham’s perspective, landing a proven Premier League talent could provide the kind of spark the club needs after a disappointing season.

What’s Next for Spurs and Grealish?

While Tottenham remain very interested in bringing Grealish to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, overcoming his wage demands and convincing him to leave City — where he still feels settled — will be no small feat.

With Postecoglou’s future up in the air and major changes expected in the summer, Spurs’ pursuit of Grealish could hinge on how their season ends — and whether the club can offer him the stability and ambition he seeks.
