Rory McIlroy is set to celebrate his Masters triumph in iconic fashion, having been invited to parade his green jacket and trophy at Old Trafford—home of his beloved Manchester United.

The 35-year-old golf star clinched the elusive career Grand Slam on Sunday, becoming just the sixth player in history to do so. McIlroy secured victory at Augusta by defeating fellow Brit Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff, claiming his fifth major title and ending an 11-year wait for Masters glory.

Following his achievement, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim extended a personal video invitation.

“Hi Rory, congratulations on The Masters,” Amorim said. “I want to invite you to Old Trafford to show your trophy. You achieved something a lot of people thought would be impossible, and we want that feeling in our stadium. I hope to see you soon and to meet you.”

The invitation mirrors the recent honour given to darts sensation Luke Littler, who displayed his PDC World Championship trophy at the same venue earlier this year.

McIlroy, a lifelong United supporter, responded positively when asked about the idea:

“If it can inspire some better play, absolutely,” he said, alluding to the club’s ongoing struggles in the Premier League.

Currently sitting 14th in the table after a 4-1 loss to Newcastle, United have suffered 14 defeats in 32 league matches this season. Amorim hopes moments like McIlroy’s visit can inject positivity into the squad as they aim for a strong finish and a deep run in the Europa League.

This wouldn’t be McIlroy’s first appearance at Old Trafford with silverware—he paraded the Claret Jug there in 2014 following his Open Championship win.

However, scheduling the visit may prove tricky. McIlroy is due to compete in the Zurich Classic (April 24–27) and will then contest the PGA Championship starting May 15 at Quail Hollow, North Carolina. Manchester United’s remaining home fixtures include games against Wolves (April 20), West Ham (May 10), and Aston Villa (May 25), with potential additional dates if they advance in the Europa League.

The invitation represents more than a ceremonial moment—it reflects a shared hope between club and fan for a return to glory. As Amorim rebuilds and United chase European success, McIlroy’s historic achievement offers timely inspiration.
