Gerwyn Price has lifted the lid on what rising superstar Luke Littler is truly like behind the scenes, offering fans a rare glimpse into the teenager’s behaviour and mentality before stepping onto the oche for major darts matches.

While Littler has become one of the most talked-about names in world darts — breaking records, winning titles and reshaping the sport at just 17 — very little is publicly known about how he prepares in the moments leading up to competition. But Price, who has shared multiple practice rooms with him at televised events, says the young prodigy is nothing like what fans might expect.

“He’s unbelievably calm — it’s like he’s not even playing”

Price revealed that the most striking thing about Littler’s pre-match routine is his complete lack of nerves.

“Luke is unbelievably laid-back,” Price said. “In the practice room he’s chilled, laughing, chatting… you’d think he was there just to hang out, not about to play on a massive stage.”

According to Price, while other players — himself included — often go into intense focus mode, Littler remains relaxed, joking with players and staff while casually drilling high scores on the practice board.

“He’ll be hitting 180s for fun, but without that tension most players feel before a big match. It’s rare to see.”

A natural rhythm that doesn’t change under pressure

Price also explained that Littler’s throwing rhythm in the practice room is identical to what he does on the stage — a trait usually seen only in world champions.

“Some players look great in practice and then tighten up on stage. Luke? He throws the same everywhere. It’s like he doesn’t feel pressure at all.”

Price believes this is a major factor behind Littler’s extraordinary consistency and early success at the highest level.

Respectful, friendly, but fiercely competitive

Although Littler is relaxed, Price made it clear that he is still a fierce competitor.

“He’s a good lad — respectful, polite and easy to get on with. But as soon as it’s match time, he switches on. You can see it in his eyes. He’s there to win.”

This dual nature — friendly off-stage, ruthless on it — is something Price says reminds him of several former world champions.

“Don’t mistake his calmness for weakness”

Price also warned that some players still underestimate Littler because of his youth and relaxed attitude. According to him, that is a mistake.

“You cannot intimidate him. You can’t rattle him. The calmer he is, the more dangerous he gets.”

He added that Littler’s mindset, not just his scoring, is what could keep him at the top of the sport for years to come.

A behind-the-scenes insight fans rarely get

Price’s comments offer one of the clearest pictures yet of Littler’s personality away from the cameras — a calm, confident young man who treats darts like second nature.

With Littler continuing to break records and challenge established stars, it seems his composed mentality may be just as important to his rise as his electric scoring.
