Noa-Lynn van Leuven Sees Real Chance Despite Tough Draw Against Peter Wright at World Darts Championship: “It Will Be Tough, But Certainly Not Impossible”
Noa-Lynn van Leuven is refusing to be intimidated by a challenging first-round draw at the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship, insisting she has every intention of pushing two-time world champion Peter Wright to the limit at Alexandra Palace.
The Dutch star — one of the most rapidly improving players on the tour and a trailblazer in the women’s game — was handed one of the toughest opening fixtures when the draw was unveiled this week. Wright, known for his experience, colourful persona, and world-class scoring power, enters the tournament as a heavy favourite.
But van Leuven is heading to Ally Pally with belief, not fear.
Speaking after the draw, she made her intentions clear:
“It will be tough, but certainly not impossible,” she said confidently. “Peter is a great player, but if I play my game and stay focused, I know I can cause problems.”
Van Leuven has enjoyed a breakout year across the circuit, showing consistency on stage and earning respect from fans and pros alike for her composure under pressure. Her upward trajectory has also made her one of the most intriguing dark horses in the women’s contingent this year.
Wright, meanwhile, has had a turbulent season filled with flashes of brilliance mixed with inconsistency — leaving many to wonder which version of “Snakebite” will appear on darts’ biggest stage.
Van Leuven believes that if she strikes early and puts Wright under pressure, the match could take a very different shape than many expect.
“I’ve learned a lot this year,” she added. “I’ve played big names, I’ve beaten big names, and I’ve worked hard to make sure I’m ready for this moment. The World Championship is special — anything can happen.”
A win would make van Leuven the latest female star to produce a landmark Ally Pally moment, following in the footsteps of Fallon Sherrock, Beau Greaves, and Lisa Ashton, all of whom have created history on darts’ biggest platform.
And with the global audience tuning in, van Leuven says she’s embracing the opportunity rather than feeling the pressure.
“This is why we play,” she said. “I’m going to give everything, enjoy the stage, and see where it takes me.”
One thing is certain — Peter Wright will not be taking her lightly. And if van Leuven finds her rhythm early, a major upset could be on the cards at Alexandra Palace.
