Two-time world darts champion Gary Anderson has revealed he has officially banned himself from using a chainsaw after suffering a freak injury in the build-up to the World Darts Championship.
The 54-year-old Scot, known for his love of outdoor work and hands-on DIY jobs, admitted he suffered a scare while operating the tool at home—prompting an immediate personal ban just weeks before stepping onto the Ally Pally stage.
“I’m not touching one again” – Anderson’s Chainsaw Scare
Anderson explained that the incident happened during a routine bit of garden maintenance when the chainsaw kicked back unexpectedly.
Though not seriously hurt, the episode was alarming enough for the veteran star to reassess his off-oche activities.
“I gave myself a proper fright. That’s me done with chainsaws—I’m banning myself from going near one,” Anderson said.
“The World Championship is coming up and the last thing I need is a daft injury from messing about in the garden.”
The self-imposed rule is part precaution, part humour—classic Anderson, who has often spoken about avoiding unnecessary risks during the season.
A Habit of Odd Injuries
Anderson’s fans know this isn’t the first time he has picked up strange knocks away from darts. From back tweaks while lifting heavy items to mishaps on his property, “The Flying Scotsman” has developed a reputation for unusual off-stage incidents.
This latest scare came close enough to derail his preparation that he has now put strict limits on what he’ll do until after the tournament.
Focused on Ally Pally
Despite the odd setback, Anderson insists he’s fully focused and in good form heading into the World Championship. The two-time winner has enjoyed a strong resurgence over the past year and is eager to challenge the sport’s new generation, including Luke Littler, Michael Smith, and Luke Humphries.
“I’m playing well, feeling good.
No gardening injuries are getting in the way this time,” he joked.
Fans React With Relief – and Laughter
News of the chainsaw ban has amused darts supporters, many of whom were quick to praise Anderson for taking precautions. Some joked that his tools should be locked away until after his Ally Pally campaign ends.
