Humphries was awarded the honour for his services to darts, having previously reached world No.1 and claimed the Premier League title in May.

Reflecting on his conversation with the Prince of Wales, the 30-year-old revealed:
“We just talked about darts. He asked where the best place is to watch it, and I told him Alexandra Palace. He already knew it well — it’s the biggest tournament in the world.

“I think he’d love to come. If he could just turn up and watch, I’m sure he’d really enjoy it. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple for him, but I’m sure he watches from home.”

Humphries, who described receiving his MBE as the “biggest honour” of his career, also spoke about helping transform the modern image of darts.

“Since I’ve been involved in the sport, I’ve attracted a different audience — a younger generation. Alongside Luke Littler, we’ve been the two major forces in darts over the last two or three years.

“We’ve completely changed the dynamic of the sport. A lot of people used to see it as just a pub game, but now they’re recognising it for what it really is: a major sport.

“I think that’s why both of us have been honoured — because we’ve brought a new meaning and new visibility to darts.”

Humphries will now look to secure his second world title as the World Darts Championship begins at Alexandra Palace on Thursday. He is set to face Ted Evetts in Saturday’s late session in the opening round.
