Luke Littler has revealed the real reason behind his decision to skip BBC interviews in the build-up to the Sports Personality of the Year ceremony — and insists the broadcaster is fully aware of his stance.

The 18-year-old darts sensation, who is among the favourites for the award after a phenomenal breakthrough year, has been noticeably absent from recent BBC promotional content. His omission sparked speculation among fans, but Littler has now made it clear that the situation is no mystery to those involved.

Speaking after his latest tournament appearance, Littler addressed the chatter directly:

“They know,” he said.
“I’ve told them what I’m doing. It’s nothing personal — I’m just focusing on my darts.”

Littler’s rise has been extraordinary. From becoming the youngest-ever World Darts Championship finalist in January to winning multiple major titles and climbing to world No.1, he has become one of the biggest names in British sport.

But with the World Championship in full swing, the teenager says his priority is competing — not doing a media tour.

“I don’t want any distractions,” he explained.
“This is the most important time of the season. The BBC understand that.”

Despite the reduced media presence, Littler remains a strong contender for SPOTY. His popularity and historic achievements have made him one of the standout sporting figures of the year.

The BBC, for their part, are said to be relaxed about Littler’s choice, with insiders reportedly acknowledging that the young star’s schedule is “packed” and that his focus must remain on darts during a crucial period.

With or without BBC build-up, one thing is certain — Littler will be at the centre of attention on awards night.
