Luke Littler admits that FEAR and a constant “fire in the belly” are the key ingredients behind his longevity in the sport as he continues to dominate the darts scene at such a young age.

The teen sensation opened up on his long-term future while outlining a clear retirement plan, making it known that his time in the sport will ultimately depend on how long he can maintain that inner hunger and motivation to keep winning at the highest level.

The World No.1 openly admits that his long-term future in darts will be decided by whether that burning desire remains, stressing that once it fades, he would have no problem stepping away from the game entirely.

The teenage sensation has already set his sights on completing a full set of major titles and now needs just the European Championship Darts and the PDC World Cup of Darts to achieve that goal and cement his legacy even further.

Littler revealed that once that drive disappears, he will have no hesitation in calling time on his career, regardless of his age or current standing in the sport.

He said: “That’s down to me. Whether I still want it in 10 or 15 years, whether I’m financially settled and have enough.

“The main thing is I have done everything I have wanted to do. The main goal is to win one of every major.

“Then double and triple, like I have in some tournaments already.

“Like Michael van Gerwen once said, once the fear goes out of the belly, the fire goes out of the belly. That’s when we pack it in.”

Littler has also backed his close friend and rival Luke Humphries to bounce back to top form after a slow and surprising start in the Premier League Darts campaign.

He continued: “It definitely surprises me because everyone goes on about Luke and Luke.

“It’s very different for him but that is his worry. He’s obviously got to get on the practice board and make things right.

“There’s still a long way to go and it wouldn’t surprise me if he came through to the top four and go to the O2.”

Despite already achieving so much in such a short space of time, Littler’s comments highlight a mature mindset, showing he understands that success at the very top is not just about talent, but about maintaining that relentless hunger and edge that keeps champions winning year after year.
