The 42-year-old topped Group A with a strong 4-1 win over Jeff Smith at the Live Lounge.

After sealing the victory, Baggish held up a photo of his son to the camera in a touching moment, clearly overwhelmed with emotion.

Speaking in the studio afterwards, he struggled to put his feelings into words when asked about the gesture.

He paused and wiped away tears as he tried to explain what the moment meant.

He said: “So much. I’m sorry.”

Once he regained his composure, Baggish opened up about the emotional challenge of returning to the oche.

He said: “It meant a lot, but I felt it when I got to three legs. I felt the emotions take over a little bit, so I had to take a deep breath back there.

“I think last night was the first time I started thinking about home and everything. For about an hour, I was really overwhelmed.

“You have to keep it in — you have a job to do. You’ve got to focus on what you came here for and hold it together until the right moment to let it out.

“I’ve always been an emotional player, but this is different. The moment I hit that double tops, it was a wave of relief — along with thoughts, appreciation and love.”

The Modus Super Series is being held in Portsmouth, UK, and features 12 players without PDC Tour Cards.

After topping his group, Baggish has now progressed to the final, which takes place this weekend.
