Beau Greaves brands Premier League ‘boring’ and demands radical new tournament changes to end ‘repetitive’ games

Beau Greaves believes introducing women into the Premier League Darts setup could help freshen up the competition and stop fans calling the weekly roadshow “boring” and “flat”.

The women’s world No.1 says adding female players alongside the men would bring a completely different dynamic to Thursday nights and give supporters something new to get excited about.

However, Greaves also admitted she understands why some fans may question whether the women’s game is currently ready for that level of exposure and competition.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Doncaster star said: “It’s probably a bit of a stretch but I would have a female Premier League as well alongside the men.

“I know people probably don’t want to see the ladies play, I get it. But it also adds something to them sort of nights.”

Greaves believes the current Premier League format has become too repetitive at times and says introducing new elements could make the competition more entertaining for viewers.

“The Premier League is great but I see a lot of people say it is a bit boring or it is a bit flat,” she explained.

“It is repetitive. I think if you throw something else in the mix it might, not even necessarily the ladies, just other tours or something, just to shake it up and make it interesting.”

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a sensational rise in recent years and has become the dominant force in the women’s game.

Greaves has already claimed an astonishing 55 PDC Women’s Series titles and earlier this year achieved another huge milestone by landing her first-ever ProTour title at Players Championship 11.

Her rapid progress has strengthened calls for more opportunities for female players on the biggest stages in darts.

Despite growing up surrounded by darts, Greaves revealed her own father initially needed convincing before fully realising how talented she really was.

She explained how darts runs throughout her family, with several relatives regularly involved in the sport.

“My grandad plays and so on. Obviously, my dad played and my uncle played,” Greaves said.

“Then Taylor played, my brother, and then I started playing.

“Then when I started playing he said to my dad, ‘Oh, she is quite good,’ and he didn’t believe him.”

Greaves revealed it took her father a while before he finally went upstairs to watch her throw properly for the first time.

“The board was upstairs and it took him ages to come upstairs for him to be like, ‘The way I throw is a very natural throw for a girl,’” she added.

The darts star admitted she still finds it amusing that her dad was initially sceptical about her ability despite how quickly she improved.

“I don’t know, it is just not common I suppose,” Greaves said.

“I have never actually asked him, to be honest. I probably should ask him. That is just the story that is about.

“My dad found out and he weren’t bothered until I was good so I have got a bone to pick with him now.”
