Gerwyn Price defies Iceman nickname as he slams being ‘uncomfortable’ on stage in freezing arena

Gerwyn Price has revealed that the chilly conditions at the Australian Darts Masters left him feeling “uncomfortable” during his opening match in Wollongong.

The world No. 4 defeated Simon Whitlock 6-2 but produced an unconvincing performance, averaging just 87.58 in a match where he struggled to find his best form.

Price eventually progressed before his run came to an end against James Wade in the semi-finals.

The 41-year-old arrived in Australia full of confidence after reaching the final of the New Zealand Masters the previous week and also making it to the World Matchplay final.

However, Price admitted that he found it difficult to settle against Whitlock and even jokingly called for the heating to be turned up.

Speaking after the match, the Welshman acknowledged that his performance was below his usual standards but was pleased to secure the victory.

Price Praises Wollongong Crowd

Despite his struggles on the oche, Price had plenty of praise for the fans inside the WIN Entertainment Centre.

The Welshman admitted that hostile crowd reactions can sometimes motivate him to raise his level, particularly when he feels under pressure.

Price said the atmosphere was good for both himself and Whitlock, with the supporters getting behind each player at different stages of the contest.

While the cold conditions made life difficult for Price, he will take confidence from progressing through the tournament and will hope to rediscover his best form in his next appearance.
