Former Lakeside champion Mark Webster recently explained that doctors advised him to stay away from darts events for the time being while he continues his recovery.

The 42-year-old revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with hairy cell leukaemia and has since been receiving treatment.

Speaking on Darts World YouTube channel, Webster said: “It sounds worse when you hear the word leukaemia, but the prognosis is very positive and most cases respond well to treatment.

“At some stage I’ll be in remission, but the recovery process has been a bit slower than expected.”

The 2008 BDO world champion has not worked at Premier League Darts events since February, although he hopes to return in the near future.

Webster added: “Personally I feel fine and I’d love to get back to work, but the medical advice has been to avoid those environments for now.

“It’s about being patient and following the guidance. Hopefully I’ll be back sooner rather than later.”

Paton responded to the interview with several heart emojis on social media earlier this week.

The former Welsh star has become a well-liked figure in darts through his work as a commentator and pundit, but he has been absent from screens in recent months.

Back in February, during coverage of Luke Littler versus Clayton, Paton also sent Webster a message of support live on air.

She said: “You may have noticed over the last few weeks that one of Jonny’s closest friends and a valued member of our Sky Sports Darts team, Mark Webster, has been away.

“He is currently receiving treatment and won’t be part of our coverage for a little while.”

Addressing Webster directly, she added: “Webby, we know you’re watching. We’re all thinking of you and look forward to seeing you back soon.”

MODUS Sports Management also released a statement confirming Webster would be taking a temporary break from broadcasting duties while focusing on his health and recovery.
