Fallon Sherrock should never have featured in Beat Luke Littler. Former darts world champion
FALLON SHERROCK should never have featured in Beat Luke Littler.
Former darts world champion and Sky Sports star Mark Webster has hit out at Netflix’s decision to enlist the 32-year-old after she claimed the £501,000 jackpot.
Webster, 43, has explained to Sky Sports that the competition should have only been open to amateurs, leading many watching to feel let down by the Beat Luke Littler event.
He said: “The backlash Fallon got is nothing she’s done wrong. Ultimately, I don’t think she should have been selected to play, but then you can’t blame Fallon for going to try and win half a million pounds in fair play.
“I don’t think she should have been able to play. I didn’t like the way it was made as an amateur beats Luke Littler, and a lot of them weren’t amateurs. Fallon’s a professional player.”
The live show saw 19-year-old Littler take on 20 darts players in one-off legs until he finally lost to the Queen of the Palace.
It marks the second-biggest payout in darts history, behind only the World Championship which has a £1million prize on the line.
And Webster has explained that the sudden cash injection will do wonders for Sherrock’s career.
Webster continued: “She’ll be quite chilled. I’m not saying she has financial burdens, but that’s going to really help going forward – doing things for her.”
Sherrock’s high-profile win has been hailed as a key moment for bringing more women into the sport.
But Webster has noted that her selection was a “grey area” with Scottish teenager Mitchell Lawrie being snubbed as the prize had already been won before the youngster got a turn to play against Littler.
Yet the winner very nearly missed out as student Pearse Mackle came within millimetres of claiming the jackpot earlier in the competition.
Pointless and House of Games star Richard Osman previously explained that there was a secret backup plan if Littler lost early on, with players battling for another prize pot.
However, Sky Sports star Webster has suggested that the show would have been improved if the following players could try to split Sherrock’s winnings.
