LUKE LITTLER has revisited his tongue-in-cheek comments about Luke Humphries after the pair silenced their critics by winning the World Cup of Darts.

The two highest-ranked players in the world teamed up once again for England at the tournament in Frankfurt and delivered on their billing by claiming the title in impressive fashion.

Littler and Humphries produced their finest display of the week to defeat Dutch duo Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen 10-5 in the final at the Eissporthalle.

The victory put an end to any lingering doubts about whether the pair could thrive together on the big stage.

Questions had surrounded their partnership since England’s disappointing campaign the previous year, with some suggesting the two stars were not particularly close away from the oche.

Ahead of this year’s event, Littler laughed off those claims and joked about how much time they were spending together.

He said: “I think there were a few talks last year that we didn’t sit together. We are sat together at the minute.

“I might go to the toilet with him. I might go outside with him at all times.

“He’s going to sit on my lap as well just to make sure we are close. Other than that we are ready to go.”

After lifting the trophy, Littler was asked about those comments and stressed that both players had been fully committed to bringing success to England.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted. That’s the best we have played all tournament.

“We cannot do it every game. We have had challenges over the last two days, but that was our best performance and we got the job done.

“We never did anything wrong last year. We just came up against the better team. We wanted to get a win together and now we’ve done it.

“Going 7-3 up was crucial. We stayed relaxed and finished the job.”

Humphries echoed his team-mate’s sentiments and admitted he was proud to prove the doubters wrong.

He said: “We had to take our chances.

“We played in that game how everyone expects us to play. We carried the confidence from the Wales match into the final.

“There were a lot of doubters questioning whether we could play well as a team, but we’ve shown that we can. I’m really proud of us.”

The world No.2 believes the triumph was the perfect response to the criticism surrounding their partnership, with England’s star duo finally delivering the dominant display many had expected from the sport’s top two players.
