Michael van Gerwen was involved in a minor incident at a bar in the Netherlands while out celebrating King’s Day with friends.
The 37-year-old former world champion was enjoying the public holiday in Den Bosch when the evening took an uncomfortable turn following a disagreement outside a venue.
Footage reported in the Dutch media appears to show Van Gerwen in a brief exchange with another individual, with tensions rising before security stepped in to separate those involved and quickly bring the situation under control.
Van Gerwen initially moved towards the individual but did not become further involved as staff intervened and de-escalated the situation.
SunSport has contacted Van Gerwen and the Professional Darts Corporation for comment.
“Mighty Mike” is still expected to feature in Night 13 of the Premier League Darts in Aberdeen, where he is scheduled to face Luke Humphries in his opening match at P&J Live.
The Dutch star was previously involved in a separate disagreement outside a kebab shop last September, though he later played down the situation.
Speaking at the time, Van Gerwen said: “After a good night out, we went to get something to eat and ended up in a situation you’d rather avoid.
“The other person approached me after a verbal exchange. It’s been made to sound more dramatic than it really was, which is unfortunate.
“As you can see, people stepped in quickly and it was sorted out. I even spoke with the man’s nephew afterwards, and we cleared the air before leaving.”
Van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, has experienced mixed form in recent months but remains ranked No.4 in the world.
In last week’s Premier League night in Liverpool, he defeated Josh Rock 6-3 before narrowly losing 6-5 to Luke Littler.
