Bryan King expects that Jack Grealish would be keen to return to Aston Villa should he leave Manchester City.
The ex-Villa scout has detailed talk he heard in the summer about the 29-year-old potentially returning to the club.
Aston Villa sold Grealish to Manchester City for £100million in 2021, a British record transfer fee (via BBC Sport, 5 August 2021).
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks the England international, who has been compared with one current Villa star, might soon be keen on a return to his boyhood club.
“I always thought that if he was going to move from City, he’d go back to Villa,” King said.
“I heard that there was talk of him going back to Villa in the summer. If he’s going anywhere, which I can’t see happening till the summer, I think Villa and the Midlands would be his choice.
“I believe Grealish himself would want to return to Villa and the Midlands.”
Manchester City star Jack Grealish to return to Aston Villa?
Villa supporters would no doubt welcome Grealish back to the club with open arms.
It looked as though he might make a return ahead of this season (via TEAMtalk, 31 July) although nothing materialised in the end.
However, that doesn’t mean something can’t happen next summer.
Not only would Grealish’s return be an emotional one for supporters, but the attack-minded midfield player would also represent a quality addition to Unai Emery’s squad.
Grealish is an experienced player who has gone on to win most major honours in football. Therefore, he could be exactly what Villa need to move to the next level.
While a deal might be tough to agree from a financial point of view, if Grealish is going to make wiggle room for any club, it is going to be for his beloved Villa.
