Carlos Alcaraz issued an apology to Jannik Sinner after making a lighthearted comment about the world No. 1’s golf skills following his dominant opening-round win at the Australian Open.

Alcaraz delivered a strong performance, defeating Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the second round, where he will face Yoshihito Nishioka later this week.

However, during his post-match interview, Alcaraz playfully apologized to Sinner for a remark he made when asked by John Millman to rank his golf swing compared to those of Sinner and Roger Federer. Alcaraz quipped, “I have to ask if the ranking is based on effective swing or beautiful swing.”

He continued with a smile, “Alright, I’m sorry, it’s probably selfish, but I’m putting myself first. Second is Rafa, and third, probably Jannik. Sorry, it’s not personal.”

The cheeky comment from the Spanish star added some humor to the exchange, though Alcaraz will be hoping to demonstrate his true mastery on the tennis court as he progresses in the tournament.
