Jessica Pegula Battles Past Anna Kalinskaya to Reach Miami Open Last 16
World No. 4 Jessica Pegula fought her way into the last 16 of the Miami Open with a hard-fought victory over No. 32 seed Anna Kalinskaya on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Pegula edged out the Russian 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-6 (2) in a tense three-set battle.
The American No. 4 seed will now face No. 23 seed Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in the next round.
Pegula’s path to the fourth round included a straight-sets win over qualifier Bernarda Pera (6-4, 6-4) before overcoming Kalinskaya. Meanwhile, Kalinskaya, ranked No. 33, advanced to the third round after defeating Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima (6-1, 6-3).
