Coco Gauff Moves Past Miami Open Heartbreak, Cherishes Time with Jalen Sera
Coco Gauff’s 2025 season has not started as she hoped. After a series of early exits in Australia, the Middle East, and the Sunshine Double, the World No. 3 faced another setback at the Miami Open, falling in the Round of 16 to Magda Linette in straight sets (4-6, 4-6). Reflecting on her performance, Gauff admitted, “It wasn’t great today, it hasn’t been the last two weeks, so I’m just trying to figure that out.”
Finding Joy Beyond the Court
Despite her struggles on the court, Gauff is making the most of her time off. The 2023 US Open champion appears to be enjoying quality moments with her rumored boyfriend, Jalen Sera. The Atlanta-born musician recently shared an Instagram post featuring snapshots of their time together in Miami. The post included images of a boat ride, a scenic sunset, and Sera holding a Miami Open tennis ball, hinting at his presence at the tournament.
Gauff also engaged in playful banter in the comments section. Responding to Sera’s caption, “Soflooo 🌊🌴☀️🎾🥞🐈💚,” Gauff replied, “flawdaaa.” Their lighthearted exchange added to the speculation surrounding their relationship.
Sera’s Support Through Ups and Downs
This is not the first time Gauff has credited Sera for his support. Following her 2024 Australian Open semifinal loss to Aryna Sabalenka, Gauff revealed that he was there to help her cope. “I took off four or five days. My boyfriend came to town, so I hung out with him,” she shared in an interview.
Their bond was evident before the 2023 US Open as well. Feeling the pressure of the tournament, Gauff leaned on Sera for comfort, recalling, “I just called my boyfriend, and I told him: ‘Let’s talk until it’s time to go to sleep.’” That support seemingly played a role in her historic Grand Slam victory.
Special Moments Off the Court
Gauff and Sera’s relationship continues to thrive beyond tennis. Earlier this month, Sera celebrated Gauff’s 21st birthday with a heartfelt Instagram message: “Happy birthdayyyy @cocogauff Big 21! I hope it’s your best one yet.” The post included a picture of them enjoying an arcade game, adding to their list of memorable experiences together.
On Valentine’s Day, Sera surprised Gauff with a bouquet and a heartfelt note that read, “Happy Valentine’s Day, star! I love you. What we have will mean everything to me, forever and always.” He even included a lyric from Sade: “It’s all about our love, so shall it be forever, never ending.”
Looking Ahead
While her Miami Open campaign ended earlier than she had hoped, Gauff seems to be finding balance between her personal life and professional career. Last year, she spoke about how having a partner outside of tennis has helped her gain a fresh perspective. “To just have someone to talk to who is not involved in tennis at all gives me a fresh perspective,” she told Time magazine.
As Gauff takes time to recharge, fans are eager to see if this period of reflection and support will help her regain top form in the upcoming tournaments. Will this newfound balance translate into success on the court? Only time will tell.
