“There is no reason for me to lose this match” – Alexander Zverev distraught following heartbreaking loss to Arthur Fils at Miami Open
Alexander Zverev Left Frustrated After Shock Loss to Arthur Fils at Miami Open
World No. 2 Alexander Zverev suffered another tough defeat at the 2025 Miami Open, falling to rising French star Arthur Fils in the Round of 16. Despite a strong start, Zverev was unable to close out the match, ultimately losing in three sets.
Missed Opportunities Continue for Zverev
The 27-year-old German, who finished as the runner-up at the 2025 Australian Open, has struggled to convert winning positions in recent tournaments. After early exits in Buenos Aires, Rio, and Indian Wells, Zverev had hoped for a deep run in Miami. However, after leading 3-1 in the deciding set, he saw Fils mount a comeback to claim victory.
“I’ve been losing a lot of matches that I feel I should have won,” Zverev admitted after the loss. “It happened again today. I was up a break in the third, there was no reason for me to lose this match. I need to figure out how to finish these matches.”
Looking Ahead to the Clay Season
With his Miami Open campaign cut short, Zverev now shifts focus to the European clay-court swing. As a two-time champion in Madrid and Rome, and last year’s Roland Garros finalist, he will aim to regain momentum ahead of the French Open.
